Survey Monkey

Well,  I'm finally headed towards home base.  I completed designing a survey via surveymonkey.  It was fairly easy, but I had to work at it a bit to get the hang of what to do and how it worked.  Hopefully this is the way to post it on my blog so you can at least view the survey created.

Overall this project has me doing things I may never have considered doing.  At least I have some familiarity with these areas of technology.  I'm sure there must be at least 23 new things we could do over the next 12 months, but don't get me wrong.  I'm not suggesting the assignment be made.

Organizing Web Interests

In doing this exercise it became evident that websites can change in a short time not giving the information one is directed to get.  The delicious web site did not have an obvious learn more tab as directed but I browsed around anyway.  It's probably not a site I would use.

I did sign up for the npr  rss feed since I'm a great listener of that station.  Their book reviews often lead me to discover a book I'm glad I read.

Remember the milk is an interesting tool.  It would probably be more useful if I had a smart phone.  Otherwise I am limited to computer use only at this time.  Outlook express serves my reminder needs at this time.

Dinosaur Dig

On June 9th Martha Moore led 18 youngsters and their parents in a dinosaur dig program at the Patrick Henry Library.  View the videos to get a feel for the fun and enjoyment they had.

Challenges 17 - 19.

Library Elf seems like a helpful tool if the library system you use subscribes to this system.  We have a good reminder system with our subscription to Phone Tree.

Library Thing is a website I would like to recommend to the patron who walks up to circulation and asks if he/she has read the book before.  Of course these are probably the folks who would not use computers in their home on a regular basis.  It's a great social networking site for those who love to read.

Goodreads is a site I could get into.  I especially love the list of recommended books for book discussion groups. It was interesting to see that one of my nieces is a member of goodreads.

Book on Nook

Last October I worked with Jordon and got an e-book downloaded to the staff Nook.  No wonder the title sounded interesting to me.  When I got into reading the book I realized I had listened to it on CD within the last year.  Oh well!  At least I learned the process and got the feeling for reading an e-reader.  Since that time I've become a part of the team presenting Tech Zoo to other library systems within our Region.  My opportunities for operating numerous e-readers has truly expanded.  They certainly have their place and benefit to the frequent traveller.

As long as I work in the Library and have access to a wide range of books free of charge it isn't likely I will purchase one.  My list of "want to reads" includes many books that aren't the latest published book, so I will always have a wide range of titles to choose from without needing to have the lastest read NOW!

Flicker and Picasa

What a great way to store photos and organize them.  These sites are real possibilites for my future use.

Click & Snap

Now, using a digital camera was one thing I learned to do way before many of my collegues at the library.  I figured out and operated the first digital camera the library purchased some 10 years ago.  There is a volume of CD's with photos that are organized somewhere on the shelves at the Rustburg Library of photos I took digitally of library events beginning in 2002.

My personal digital camera is constantly in use for work and of course my own life events.  Events that take place at the two locations I work are consistently sent to Jordon to be posted on the Library website.  You will see a photo on my Blog that ws uploaded last fall.  Photography has been a big part of my life for years.
